As a little girl, I had days and weeks of fun playing with
and designing for my paper dolls--and my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES were the black
and white ones that I got to color!
Nowadays, there are more wonderful paperdolls on the market than ever
before, but the ones in black and white are few and far between---so I
drew some!
As a student of Theatre Costume History and Design,
I happened to have some very good reference material AND a good supply
of pens and inks!
These costumed ladies (and gents) are not JUST for little
girls, but are enjoyed by anyone with an interest in fashion, history,
and an enjoyment of coloring.
Beginning with ancient times and the fashions of the Egyptians, through
Victorian, Edwardian, and other Heirloom era dolls and going all the way
up through the 1960's and '70s, these dolls and their wardrobes are a treat
to color.

A few are downright racy showgirls, but in the styles of days gone by...like
Belle, in the picture shown here as a blonde in closeup, and a redhead
in a colored-in version of the Mini Belle doll. She's a Wild Western Woman
of a colorful nature---though she starts in black and white!
All paperdoll coloring sets are printed on durable white card stock
for greater strength, and ease in coloring--try pencils, pens, pastels,
or watercolors.
My personal favorites are Sanford Prismacolors (the
double nibbed felt tip pens, with a fine and a chisel point--great
colors and very transparent, along with a high degree of control and color
mixability.)
