with my own drafted
patterns
I've
been making dolls out of paper and cloth since I was five years old and allowed
to use the scissors. The first were simple "paperdoll" patterns,
consisting of a simple outline like a gingerbread cookie. The Japanese
Doll I made in appreciation of Miss Happiness and Miss Flower has a cloth
body and polymer clay face and is an example of this style. When I learned more
about sewing and shaping with flat-pattern drafting, I made more complex forms.
I sold some of these at craft shows, and in galleries.
These days, I've worked my
way up in size to dolls like Golde
and Katherine who are each
almost 6 foot tall, and Aunt Acid, who has a polymer clay head on a cloth body
with wire armature. With her head on, she measures 3'8" tall. Click

tutorial on how AA's body was made.
I also make dolls using
cotton jersey fabric that I tie dye
and embellish with beads and other baubles and bits. They can represent all
sorts of wild flights of fancy. I often use a polymer clay face with these spirit
dolls.
Below
are some cloth dolls that I made before I knew anything about polymer clay.
